Looking for an amazing career to really make an impact on both human and animal life? We have it! NAMSA is hiring a Senior Surgeon. In this position, the Associate:
- Provides assistance for most surgical procedures as required by NAMSA clients.
- Performs routine large animal surgical procedures as required by NAMSA clients.
- Performs accurate and timely record-keeping consistent with the maintenance of all quality standards and client expectations.
- Assists in the preparation of study protocols, developing animal models for clients and writing reports.
- Assists in training surgical Associates with respect to surgical matters and techniques.
- Assists in the maintenance of selected inventory levels, including veterinary and surgical supplies and equipment.
- Ensures surgical room procedures are carried out in compliance with regulatory agencies’ policies and institutional guidelines.
- Provides operator feedback to clients on the performance of test materials, as required.
- Assists in promoting programs to potential clients.
- Performs and provides assistance for major surgical procedures as required by NAMSA clients.
- Administers prescribed medications as directed by the Veterinarian and/or in accordance with client protocols.
- Develops animal disease models where appropriate to test the efficacy of new therapies.
- Assists scientific Associates with protocol development.
- Assists with conducting training to new Associates with respect to surgical matters and techniques.
- Assists with the development and implementation of plans and operations to streamline procedures, maximize efficiencies and reduce costs within the surgery rooms
- Reviews protocols and provides guidance on suitable animal models and appropriate technical procedures.
- Performs as a lead trainer for new Associates with respect to surgical procedures and techniques.
- Directs SOP or Protocol driven cardiac and emergency medications as required during surgical procedures.
- Functions as a subject matter expert for NAMSA and clients in development of new surgical models and enhancement of existing surgical procedures.

Qualifications & Technical Competencies:
- Seven years’ experience in an animal laboratory environment with surgical assisting responsibility is required.
- Strong working knowledge of AAALAC, USDA, FDA and GLP regulations as they pertain to surgical services preferred.
- Bachelor degree in biological sciences or a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) certification or Surgical Research Specialist (SRS) certification is required. DVM or MD preferred.
