Biography

Dr. Melanie White (FAHA) is the PI of the cardiometabolic proteomics group in the Charles Perkins Society at the University of Sydney. After receiving her PhD from the Sydney Medical School (University of Sydney), she was awarded a prestigious NHMRC CJ Martin Fellowship to continue her research at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (Cardiology). Since returning to Australia, she has been awarded an ARC DECRA fellowship and, most recently, a Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow. With over 20 years of experience in pre-clinical models of cardiovascular disease and cutting-edge mass spectrometry, her group research goals include understanding more about how cells adapt to their changing environment by altering proteins using post-translational modifications. Her and her team’s work centres on asking these questions in clinically relevant models of myocardial ischemia (heart attack), type 2 diabetes and obesity. Melanie also teaches molecular and cellular pathology to senior-level undergraduates at the University of Sydney School of Medicine.
