Biography

Sophie Pezet is a Neurobiologist, working on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying pain maintenance. She produced a significant contribution in the understanding of the role of some neurotrophic factors such as BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor)  in the spinal cord, in inflammatory and neuropathic pain.

Ten years ago, her research interests moved towards the study of the central (cortical level) mechanisms of plasticity that take place during pain chronicisation.  She had the unique opportunity to collaborate with the team of Prof. Tanter and be at the centre of technological development if functional ultrasound imaging.

Her team (now a member of the institute ‘Physics for Medicine’ directed by Prof. Tanter) is using molecular, behavioral and imaging approaches to improve our understanding of (physiological) acute pain, but also altered brain and spinal functions in chronic pain disorders.
