Biography

Michelle Wong was born and raised in San Francisco. She is currently a third year undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Statistics with a Biology minor at UC Davis, and is interested in studying Biostatistics in graduate school.

At age 8, she was on her way to becoming blind due to high myopia. Luckily, she was one of the early adopters of Orthokeratology, a technology in the early stages of clinical trials for the FDA that slows childhood nearsightedness, and she was able to see clearly without a constantly changing prescription for the first time. She is interested in doing research that will have a similarly lasting impact on someone else’s life. With this in mind, she started off doing wet lab research in a mouse retina lab, and then joined an oncology lab with a bioinformatics team. Michelle feels very lucky to have supportive mentors and hopes to help further oncology and health related research by pursuing a doctorate degree and potentially joining a biotech company. She is also hoping to continue to balance lab, running, and school, as well as to give back by teaching.
