Biography

Oksana Gavrilova, PhD is the Mouse Metabolism Core Director at NIDDK, NIH. Her laboratory uses mouse models to better understand how environmental and genetic factors affect energy and glucose metabolism. Dr. Gavrilova received her MS from the Moscow State University and PhD in genetics from the Institute of Genetics and Selection of Industrial Microorganisms (Moscow, Russia). She became interested in mouse physiology during her postdoctoral work in Marc Reitman’s laboratory (NIDDK, NIH) where she studied the role of adipose tissues in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism using a mouse model of lipodystrophy. Since 2002, Dr. Gavrilova leads the NIDDK Mouse Metabolism Core which provides a wide range of in vivo and in vitro tools to characterize energy and glucose homeostasis in mice.
