Biography

Dr. Ana Briones graduated in Pharmacy by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) and performed her PhD studies at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). She completed her predoctoral and postdoctoral training at University of Glasgow (UK), Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (Spain) and Universities of Montreal and Ottawa (Canada). Currently she is Associate Professor at the Pharmacology Department in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). Dr Briones is member of national (CiberCV, AORTASANA-CM) and international cardiovascular networks (MINDHIFT), scientific societies such as the European Council of Cardiovascular Research (ECCR), and she belongs to the Editorial Board of J Physiol Biochem, Am J Hypertens, Cardiovasc Res, and J Hypertens. She has served as reviewer in national and international panels and in multiple journals of the cardiovascular field.

Dr. Briones’ research lines focuses on elucidating the role of different inflammatory mediators in the vascular structural, functional, and mechanical alterations associated to different cardiovascular pathologies including hypertension, obesity, or aneurysms, among others. Specifically, her laboratory has worked for many years in the role of prostanoids and oxidative stress in cardiovascular damage, and more recently she expanded her interest to proresolving lipid mediators as novel therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular diseases.
